  It was an old Sicilian dairyman, who working his sheep's milk from which to produce cheese puts the dough in a rush container. So, when the curd began to sour due to the heat, the old cheesemaker tried to remedy by immersing it in hot water.
Thanks to that particular technique the dough began to filare (spun paste), then placed in a dish took the characteristic bun shape.
Thus was born the first piece of Vastedda della Valle del Belìce.

  The Vastedda della Valle del Belìce is a dairy peculiarity belonging to the territories of the municipalities of Santa Margherita Belìce, Contessa, Sambuca, Menfi, Partanna and Montevago.
The valley of the Belìce is located in the south-west of Sicily and hosts the basin of the namesake river that flows between the provinces of Palermo, Trapani and Agrigento.
